And the same people boycotting Honey Birdette likely still shop there.ĭo I think Honey Birdette is an ethically-run company who has done nothing wrong, and the people who refuse to shop with them are misguided? Absolutely not! Do I think the company is doing anything significantly more horrible than other lingerie companies? Also no. These are all companies with relatively good brand images, who you may be surprised to hear this about. I’ve worked for a lingerie retailer that told employees not to hang up on men who were clearly using your conversation as masturbation fodder, and instead redirect them to another topic. One which would net less money than a regular minimum wage job at, say, a grocery store. I’ve been asked to work as a freelance lingerie designer at a rate equal to minimum wage. It's interesting to consider whether or not the ad campaign would have been banned if the models wore lingerie, or if it only featured heterosexual couples. Most recently, Ad Standards banned their #FLUID campaign in early 2020, allegedly due to visible female nipples. Regardless, as of 2018, Honey Birdette had 20 ads banned by the Australian self-regulating advertisement organization Ad Standards. ![]() (If you agree with that complaint, I suggest you reconsider your own ideas of consent and the way you view women's bodies.) The idea that someone would look at the above photo and think of it as "an invitation for anal sex," as one complaint genuinely stated, is far more horrifying than the ad itself.
